Pair of Brass and Mahogany Wall Brackets B128
Original, quality late 19th century pair of small wall brackets with 'D' shaped mahogany shelves mounted on a fabulous pair of cast brass shelf brackets in the realistic form of curled snakes with super detail. The backmounts each have three countersunk screw holes for mounting and bear a registration lozenge mark for the year 1882. One mahogany shelf has a burn mark probably from a candlestick when in use and the brass has been polished and lacquered, although the lacquer may be removed at no extra cost and all is complete and in good and working order. These were probably desgined for candle brackets.

Tops 7" x 4.75" front to back.

Butterfly Cabinet with 24 Drawer CC5
Original, quality late 19th century 24 drawer entomology cabinet in mahogany. The drawers are in original finish pine throughout with a pair of mahogany knobs to each, re-papered cork bases and provision for a drop in glazed panel. Some glass is included, most is absent, but can be supplied if required. The doors have a lock with two keys, the mahogany veneered top has a split to the front and the side is showing signs of a pair of handles that have been removed. This cabinet is far too heavy to be carried with side handles. Otherwise all is complete and in good and working order.

Original, quality 1920's horse's hoof with chromed mounts containing an inkwell to the top with a lift out glass liner and a nickel plated hinged lid engraved "Tretop", presumably the name of the horse. All has been polished and lacquered and apart from a small section of horn missing from the underside, all is complete and in good and working order.

Original, quality 1920's continental pierced brass small decorative tray with a central glass lined dish decorated behind the glass with real butterfly wings. The frame of this tray is finely pierced with designs of butterflies and is signed to the top "F. Billere". The underside has four ball feet and is stamped "Depose". The upper brass surface has been polished and lacquered, although the lacquer may be removed at no extra cost. Complete and in good order.

Original, quality circa 1900 / 1920's picture framed wall mounted glazed display of five bullfinches, four males and one female. This superb example has the birds mounted on the backboard with glass to all five panels and mounted within and to the front of the original "Oxford" plaster finished frame with brass mounts to each cross over, all in an ecclesiastical look. There is no label remaining but this display was typical for George Bazeley of Wolverhampton 1871 - 1958. We have cleaned the glass inside, deposited crystals to keep away mite and retaped all round. As good as it looks, a superb and very attractive display.

Back frame 21.5" x 19.5" max.

Glazed area 13.15" x 5.5".

Original, quality pair of Red Deer Slots mounted on oak shields by "Peter Spicer & Sons, Leamington", the shields are impressed as such to the reverse, also with the numbers 1863.1 and 1863.2. The front of the shields have ivorine plaques detailing "D.S.S.H, found Hawcombe, Killed County Gate July 30th 1949". A really super pair of very clean mounts.

The stand has the label "Astacus Flurcatilis (crayfish)" and the manufacturer's label for "Gerrard & Haig Ltd, Sussex & Surrey". Original, quality Kestrel mounted in a picture frame case circa 1920. This superb case was mounted by George Bazeley of Wolverhampton, 1871 - 1958, and originally had a label to the front glass panel but was removed when renewing the front glass and is available on request still attached to a small section of the glass. This taxidermist was known for his picture frame cases. This example has old wallpaper on the reverse of the cabinet and all is complete and in good order and a very lifelike pose.

Original, quality superb mounted fox mask on the original oak shield. This example was mounted by "Spicers of Leamington", the finest taxidermist of fox masks and similar. The condition is outstanding in every detail. The original oak backboard, in the standard Spicers shape, is impressed to the reverse "P. Spicer & Sons Taxidermist" and has an ivorine plaque to the front detailing "T.S. Woodman Cottage 15.12.36.". Complete and in good order.

This very clean and bright mount is typical of all Hutchins work with three panels glazed, black painted case with gilt slips, paper mache rockwork and no taxidermist's label, all original with just some retaping to the reverse. An immaculate display quite the best we have seen.

Brown Trout in Bow Front Glass Case T213
Original, quality superb late 19th century large Brown Trout, caught at Sunbury on Thames in 1864 and mounted in a bow fronted glazed case by Cooper. This great example, larger than average for a Thames Trout, has all the good groundwork as expected for a Cooper mount, with a paper label to the top inner left corner detailing "Preserved by J. Cooper, 28 Radnor Street, St Luke London EC". The front of the bowed glass has gilt lines around and "Caught by Mr Lamport at Sunbury June 1864 Weight 6 ¼lbs". The case has been cleaned and repainted black to the reverse and has two hanging loops to the top. Complete and in good order.

Such a superb specimen, I am surprised not to find a trade label for the very competent taxidermist. We have re-painted the inside papered panels to tidy up some old staining, re-papered the back exterior and re-taped and painted the top, sides and underside. All is as good as it appears. A well above average speciman and a great looker. Complete and in good order.

Original, quality, circa 1900, mounted and cased merganser. This interesting example has the bird on a rock at the waters edge, with a flat sheet of glass simulating the water's surface. The groundwork generally is good and realistic, as is the painted back cloth. The adult bird is a little faded, but is in good order otherwise and the case has been re-taped and repainted. A little different, for the ends are both partally glazed and the front of course is one glazed panel. Complete and in good order.
