Original, quality circa 1900 / 1920's brass and boxwood rolling ruler with the original brass dividers and fitted mahogany case. This super example is detailed for the maker "W. H. Harling Ltd 117 Moorgate London" and shows little if any signs of use even though the previous owner has scratched a name "R.D.L. Clarke" to the ruler otherwise complete and in good and working order.

Original, quality late 19th century "Amperes Gauge" in a thick and deep circular brass case with a bevelled glass front, all mounted on a horseshoe shaped backplate in 0.75" thick grey slate. It appears complete and in good order with the brass polished and lacquered, although the lacquer may be removed at no extra cost and the slate cleaned and waxed. The first we have seen of this model.

This most unusual ale measure is in a pale blue willow-type pattern with pagodas, trees and a bridge over water. The top rim lip and handle are also decorated to match. Original, quality post-war two metre long horse measuring rule with the adjustable marker with a fitted spirit level. All is calibrated in centimetres to one side and 'Hands' to the other. The top of the rule is detailed for the manufacturer "I & D Smallwood Ltd Birmingham England". The spirit level has brass cover plates, polished and lacquered, although the lacquer may be removed at no extra cost and all has been cleaned and fully overhauled. The rule could well be sycamore and the crossbar is in beech and all is complete and in good and working order.

Original, quality 1920's half pint bentwood pulse measure as used by corn and seed merchants. This most unusual example is brass bound to the top and bottom rims and to the underside and is impressed "Half Pint", "GR" beneath a crown with similar marks to the inside. This example also has a zinc liner, the first we have seen ! Did these bentwood measures always have zinc liners to start with ? ? The brass has been polished and lacquered, although the lacquer may be removed at no extra cost and the wood cleaned and waxed, with no worm damage. Complete and in good order.

Original, quality, very large ale measure jug in white ceramic with transfer decoration of hops and barley to both sides, a pouring lip and a side handle. The underside is transfer printed in black with the 'Crown Pottery' logo, "Patent Government Stamped Measure, Sole Patentee and Maker, John Tams Longton", "Hop and Barley" and with the registration number for the year 1905. I can not find the custom and excise etched mark, but all is complete otherwise and has the stepped rim around the handle. This jug does have an 1.5" hairline crack to one side of the lip, but no damage or chips otherwise. This eight pint jug is a most unusual example, the largest we have seen.

Original, quality very clean folding boxwood ruler with brass hinge plates and end stops and calibrated up to 24" in inches and parts thereof. This example is detailed for the maker "J. Rabone & Sons Birmingham England", "1918" and "Warranted Best Boxwood". Both pins and keeps to retain the ruler straight are present and all is complete and in good and working order.

Original, quality 1920's clear glass tube, acid etched to one side "Use Moncrieffs Inks". This 12" long tube was a rolling ruler used with dip pens to draw horizontal lines. This is the first we have seen and all is complete and in good order.

Humphries Patent Brass Ruler R50
Original, quality circa 1900 / 1920's 12" brass ruler calibrated in inches. This unusual example has two raised edges to prevent the ink blotching the paper or hands when using a pen and has the details "By Royal Letters Patent, Humphries Patent Office & School" ruler with scales. The inch scales are punched but the maker's details and many other details for postal rates, postal orders and money orders are embossed and very worn and faint. Nevertheless all is complete and in good and working order and has been polished and lacquered, although the lacquer may be removed at no extra cost.

Original, quality late 19th century 24" folding ruler / measure in ivorine with nickel mounts. Each hinged joint has a mixture of steel bars and nickel bars and the steel ones have left some staining to the ivorine, otherwise all is in super condition. All the locating and locking pins are present and there are no twists or warping to the arms. One arm is detailed for the maker "W.Preston London". The calibration is basically in inches with many scales within that. Complete and in good and working order.
