Toleware Decorated Coal Box CB22
Original, quality mid 19th century Toleware Coal box with shovel. This super example has most of the original gilt decoration on the black japanned finish and even more special is the curved glass panel to the hinged lid at the front. The painting has been applied to the reverse of the piece of glass and portrays a very detailed river scene with a Victorian Gent fishing from the bank. The original cast iron handle to the top has been cleaned and lacquered and the replacement shovel to the back insert is of similar age to the box and the correct style of shovel. All is in super condition, complete and in good and working order.

Original, quality circa 1900, copper coal vase with the original lid but missing the liner. This coal bucket would work well without the lid as a jardiniere or with the lid as an ice bucket. The body is in copper and the side handles and feet are in cast brass and all in the original unpolished finish. This example has an Arts and Crafts style with feet very similar to W.A.S Benson designs. Apart from small dents overall all is complete and in good and working order and can be polished back to shiny brass and copper on request for no extra cost.

Original, quality late 19th century superb Art Nouveau brass coal helmet with a hinged lid, a carry handle over the top with an ebony grip and a fitted 'D' shaped brass shovel also with a matching ebony grip. The underside is impressed with the orb and cross logo for the manufacturer 'Benham and Froud' of London and Birmingham and "Harrods Ltd" for the retailer. A serious coal helmet by a serious manufacturer in a serious condition. Polished and lacquered although the lacquer may be removed at no extra cost and complete and in good and working order.

Original, quality circa 1900, brass fireside poker with a plain shaft, a turned cast brass finial grip and a square section cast iron tip. At first glance its an everyday poker but on closer inspection why the holes in the handle, slots in the cast iron tip and a 'patent' stamp ?. This poker is hollow and therefore was designed and patented to be used as a blowpipe for starting the embers going again or to start up a fire. We have not seen these before. Polished and lacquered, although the lacquer may be removed at no extra cost and complete and in good and working order.

The cast brass handles and finials have acanthus leaf decoration in relief; the poker has a tapered square bar brass tip, the tongs have pierced shoulders and grips decorated with acanthus leaves and the shaped shovel end is embossed with a detail of roses and buds with the reverse impressed with the registration number for the year 1886. Original, quality mid 19th century very unusual Toleware firescreen. This super example has much of the original gilt decoration on the black japanned finish and even more special is the curved glass panel to the centre with its back decoration of gilt detail and abalone shell fragments. The front has a ribbed brass knob in the original unpolished finish. The reverse has most of its original black japanned finish and its wrought iron mounting bracket but sadly the makers' plaque is missing but the evidence of where it was is very obvious. This was most probably manufactured by Pontipool. Complete and in good and working order.

Original, quality circa 1900, brass framed firescreen with a bevelled mirrored panel with cut decorations to the centre. This superb example has a square tubed brass frame with a top mount of a basket of flowers a pair of urn-shaped finials and the base has a pair of legs front to back. The reverse has the original sheet of lead protecting the mirror from the heat which has some sheet lead patches, and the glass has blemishes to the centre and lower section but no chips or cracks, otherwise all is in super condition. The brass has been polished and lacquered, although the lacquer may be removed at no extra cost.
