Ebonised Wellington Collectors Cabinet
Original, quality late 19th century Ebonised Collectors Cabinet with 14 half width drawers and three long, two side locking bars with keys and the original brass drop handles to the drawers. The drawer interiors are very clean and tidy and the total construction is in softwood with no ply. The exterior has the original soft ebonised finish to the exterior all round including the rear panels, the finish shows super soft wear and rubbing to the edges. A most unusual drawer layout for a Wellington chest, the first I have seen with half width drawers mixed with full width ones, hence the requirement for two locking side tabs. A super, very usable collectors cabinet of drawers, complete and in good and working order.

Original, quality late 19th century fireproof safe' sand blasted and stove enamelled black to the exterior and cold painted primer grey to the inside. This exceptional safe has a lockable drawer to the interior, two lift out blue velvet lined mahogany trays and a removable steel shelf. The door has all the original brass mounts as has the inner drawer with the locks fully overhauled. The plaque to the door details the manufactured "Chubb and Sons Lock Safe Co Ltd" and "126 Queen Victoria St London" and the sliding keyhole cover is embossed, with similar detail. The brass has been polished and lacquered, although the lacquer may be removed at no extra cost, the door has two keys, the drawer has one and all is complete and in good and working. A super above average fireproof safe manufactured by the best.

Original, quality late 19th century brass shop counter bell with an aesthetic movement design to the tripod cast brass base. This super example has an internal clapper actuated by pressing down the top button. The reverse of the base is impressed with the registration lozenge mark for the year 1871. All has been polished and lacquered and is complete and in good and working order with a good loud ring. The top button is a replacement made to suit copied from an original.

Original, quality, two matching, oak stacking bookcases manufactured by Globe Wernicke, of London, circa 1900. These superb examples each have five glazed sections, a plinth and a top cornice section and will dismantle into seven sections for ease of moving, or to add to other sections of the same bookcase units. These cabinets are made to add upwards and outwards and come in a variety of heights and types of cabinets, glazed or panelled, but always the same width. Each stack of these have three smaller glazed sections, two larger, a plinth and top cornice. The glazed doors lift up and slide into the top of each section. The top board to one plinth section is stamped in ink with many patent dates, the latest being 1899 and each backboard has an ivorine label detailing "The Globe Wernicke Co Ltd Office and Library Furnishers London". All has been cleaned and waxed and is complete and in good and working order. Will sell each stack separately if required at £850.

Original, quality matching pair of 1920's oval shaped, off white ceramic, spirit barrels with the original dust cover caps and ceramic taps. Both these are complete although well crazed overall and would not be advisable for use, for the crazing may be porous over a period. Never the less this is a super, very unusual pair having lots of gilt decoration around the central front painted panels of Grebes and Swans. One is labelled "Vimto" and the other "Lemon". The taps are impressed 'Off' to one side, and the underside of the barrels are transfer printed "Made in England H and K Tunstall". These were originally used on the bar backdrop in pubs and hotels. One small chip only to the inner rim of one dust cap.

Original, quality, late 19th century, large steel sugar cleaver, a shaped blade with a hole for hanging, with a heavy brass ferrule and a turned fruitwood handle. This cleaver was used to break (chop) up sugar from the large cones as supplied by the grocer to the kitchens of large houses and hotels. The brass has been polished and lacquered, although the lacquer may be removed at no extra cost and all is complete and in good order.

Original, quality 1920's / 30's, stacking bookcase in oak with hinged doors. This example has five horizontal sections, the base on four turned feet is taller than the other four sections and the top section has the integral cornice trim, each section locks on with turning wooden plates to the inside of each lower section. The hinged and glazed doors each have the original matching brass knobs and a ball catch to hold the door closed. The top left hand door has an ivorine label fixed to the inside frame detailing the manufacturer "Minty Ltd Library Specialist Oxford". All is very clean, in the original finish and complete and in good and working order. A very usable bookcase / display cabinet.

Original, quality, late 19th century, brass and copper firescreen with super embossed detail in the Art and Crafts Movement style. The inner copper panel in deep relief details a cliff top scene of a castle to the left and a lighthouse in the distance to the right. The shaped frame is hammered overall, has a rolled over edge and is rivetted to the copper panel with copper rivets. The front splayed feet in brass have acanthus leaf forms and the top of the brass frame has a cut out carry handle. The reverse has a blacksmith made wrought iron frame rivetted to the panel and has a replacement wrought iron splayed foot made to suit, copied from the remains of the original. A most unusual firescreen and a super looker. Polished and lacquered, although the lacquer may be removed at no extra cost and complete and in good and working order. Not a maker's mark to be found and the first we have seen of this model.

Original, quality, 1st World War trench art decorated brass shell case, with deep relief designs of acorns and oak leaves on branches on a stippled background, with "1917" and "Aisne" for the 2nd battle during the 1st World War, deeply embossed to the upper section. The top has been fretted out to a pattern and the underside is stamped "75 Dec", "RSL281" and "1910". All has been polished and lacquered, although the lacquer may be removed at no extra cost and is in good order.

Original, quality 18th century cast brass hand bell in the original unpolished and patinated green colour, with the original blacksmith made wrought iron internal clapper and turned fruitwood handle with a brass ferule. This bell has cast in around the body "Trinity Ward 1755" in good clean raised text. Apart from the handle being a little loose, All is complete and in good and working order. A good very, loud bell with good resonance and tone and what a bonus with the date.

Original, quality superb large circular copper tea tray in the form of a Lily pad with rolled over petal shaped outer rim and radial ribs. The underside is stamped for "W.A.S Benson" and with the registration number for the year 1894. A super tray in perfect condition. Polished and lacquered upper surface and with the tired finish to the underside. The first we have seen this size.

Original, quality, early 19th century, 28lb grocers' / butchers', brass counter weight with a shaped body and an open ring top grip. This superb example is engraved to the top of the grip "28lb Avoir" and to the front near the base "County of Lancaster 1834". Many star shaped punch marks are visible, these would be punching out invalid check stamps. A large and clean brass weight, not easy to find in this size today. A great door stop, polished and lacquered, although the lacquer may be removed at no extra cost. Complete and in good order.

The drawers have been fitted with rails to take standard files, now from front to back. All has been cleaned, refinished and fully overhauled and is complete and in good and working order. The best example we have seen for some time.

Original, quality, mid to late 19th century, burnished steel fireside tongs and shovel, with a replacement steel poker made to match. The tongs and shovel are original, but the poker was missing. These fire irons are of super quality with turned finial grips and decorative mounts on each stem. The piercing to the shovel was to sift through the embers and put back onto the fire all but the ash. All has been cleaned and lacquered and are complete and in good and working order.

Original, quality 1920's cylindrical shaped clear glass biscuit barrel liner, within a pierced strap work frame, with a swing over brass handle and a closed brass circular lid, with a shaped finial. This example was probably nickel or silver plated originally but is now polished back to the brass and has every detail and feel to have been manufactured by " WMF " but there are no marks to this effect. Never the less a serious arts and crafts style with no chips or blemishes to the glass. The brass has been polished and lacquered, although the lacquer may be removed at no extra cost and is complete and in good and working order.

Original, quality, all brass, rectangular shaped wall sconce, circa 1880, with two movable brass arms, with candle holders and drip pans. The main embossed and engraved panel details an owl on a branch and is surrounded by a wide border of embossed engraved flowers and leaves. The mounts for the candle holders are to the lower edge of the backplate and will permit the sconces to swivel left and right, but not too far back to cause a problem with the candles being against the wall. The backplate has a ring to the top for mounting and all has been polished and lacquered, although the lacquer may be removed at no extra cost and all is complete and in good order. A daft looking owl, but a super wall sconce.

Original, quality, late 19th century, marble topped corner washstand in ash with a tiled back. This superb example has a drawer to the front with a brass drop handle and is stamped to the front top of the drawer with the maker's details "Jas Shoolbred and Co" of London. The marble, with the tiled splashback, will lift off the ash base to ease removal. The marble has a grey veined on white colour and has been finished with bevelled edges. The set of twelve matching tiles are black and white and have an Aesthetic Movement floral detail. All is complete and in good order. A most unusual corner washstand.

Original, quality late 19th century copper teapot with brass spout, lid and handle assembly, a turned wooden knob and a cane covered handle. This superb example designed by W.A.S Benson is No 5626 in his range of metalware and is stamped " W.A.S Benson " to the inside of the lid. All has been polished and lacquered, although the lacquer may be removed at no extra cost and is complete and in good and working order. A very clean example the first we have seen of this model. This example is illustrated in the publication W.A.S Benson Arts and Crafts Luminary and Pioneer of Modern Design, plate 46 p 75.

Original, quality 1920's, brass crib board with four brass ball feet and shaped ends. The shape to each end differs and has a single hole for the waiting peg. The top has 18 banks of six holes for the pegs and two red and two white pegs are included. This example has a brass sliding drawer beneath to store the pegs and all has been polished and lacquered, although the lacquer may be removed at no extra cost. Complete and in good and working order.

Original, quality, late 19th century, vertical rectangular shaped wall mirror with four mirror side panels cushioned away from the main central glass. The main mirror is bevelled and the slips are plain and all is surrounded with pressed brass decorative mounts of acanthus leaves and flower heads. The whole is mounted with a matching top pediment, triangular in shape, again of decorative pressed brass details of acanthus leaves and flowers. All is original including the wooden backing but we have re-papered the back of the mirror panel. All has been cleaned polished and lacquered and is complete and in good order.

Original, quality larger than average, late 19th century, surface mounted brass door lock. Will take a standard modern square bar for the handles.This lock has the provision for a handle turn and key lock, a replacement keep has been made to suit and an old key altered to fit. This heavy example is rather unusual in having a mounting flange top and bottom and all the internal mechanisms appear to be in brass; this was generally the case where a spark would be dangerous i.e. a dry store, stables, gunpowder or ammunition store etc. A super lock, fully overhauled, polished and lacquered, although the lacquer may be removed if required at no extra cost and is complete and in good and working order.

Original, quality, late 19th century, brass standard lamp, originally an oil lamp stand and now converted to electricity. The circular base is mounted over a heavy cast iron counterbalance weight, with three brass feet attached. The tubular stem has a central collar and the bulb holder at the top. Rewired with modern three core flex and a new brass UK bulb holder and switch. Fully overhauled, polished and lacquered, although the lacquer may be removed at no extra cost. Complete and in good and working order.

Original, quality late 19th century oval shaped Swiss ' Black Forest ' carved breadboard. This unusual example has carvings of Eidelweiss and other flowers to the lower border and a motto to the upper detailing " Donner nous Notre Pain Quotidien " translated means " Give us our daily bread ". Some old worm holes, well treated with no recent activity and faint traces of carving of ancient farming implements to the central section obviously lost due to use, otherwise complete and in good order.

Original, quality, late 19th century, oval shaped off white ceramic footbath with two end handles and a blue printed Aesthetic Movement 'Japanesque' detailed panels to each side, with fans and silk ribbons. Each end beneath the handles also has similar detail. The underside is detailed with the logo for the manufacturer "Brown Westhead Moore and Co", for the design "Livonia" and has an embossed registration lozenge mark for the year 1842 to 1883. All is in super condition with no chips or cracks, but with some crazing and minor knocks to the underside of the base. These footbaths were originally optional as part of the larger ewer and basin wash sets and would have had a matching jug for filling if required. Most unusual to find these in good order today.

Pair of original, quality, late 19th century, larger then average carved oak fireside bellows with the original tan coloured leatherwork, studs and cast brass spout. This long handled pair of bellows has detailed carving to the top board of 'The Green Man' with leaf detail running up the stem. The brass has been polished and lacquered, although the lacquer may be removed at no extra cost and the leather and oak have been cleaned and waxed. All has been fully overhauled and is complete and in good and working order.

Original, quality, late 19th century, huge cast iron door knocker with a laurel wreath design in good detail, hanging from a square block mount. The reverse of the ring is impressed "345" for the model, probably made by A Kenrick and Sons of West Bromwich although it is not marked. A replacement cast iron knocking stud and threaded bars and nuts have been fitted, all has been cleaned and lacquered and is complete and in good and working order. A super large example in great condition.

Original, quality, late 19th century, superb cast iron door porter, with entwining fish 'Georgian Dolphins' on a bed of seaweed and shells, with a top handgrip of flowers and leaves. The reverse is impressed with "470" for the model number and this is the number for an identical example detailed in the 1876 catalogue of 'A Kenrick and Son, iron founder, of West Bromwich, Staffordshire'. Original, quality, superb, late 19th Century, cast iron nutmeg grater, with a turned wooden handle, a brass clip to the body, a sprung loaded plunger to grip the nutmeg and a threaded thumbscrew to grip the table or shelf. The main body is embossed 'Patented June 7th 1870'. An unusual example; complete and in good and working order.

Original, quality 1920's, cast iron patented slicer in the original green varnish finish. This kitchen aid is designed to slice cucumber, runner beans and orange peel for marmalade, but it will also slice other vegetables cut small enough to be pressed down the shute with the wooden press. The cut is adjustable and the 'G' clamp is to grip it to the work table. The main body is embossed to both sides "G B Patent Slicer, Made in England" and the wooden press is a replacement made to suit. Appears unused and is complete and in good and working order, the first we have seen.

Original, quality, late 19th Century, superb, pale green ceramic, vase shaped oil side lamp with a cast brass decorative plinth, sides handles and top mount to the lift out font. The ceramic body is extremely well decorated with a floral design to each side; one of snowdrops and the other of a white clematis style of flower. The original twin 1" wick burner is also of top quality and of the bayonet fitting, with the turn key lifting action to enable the wicks to be lit without removing the globe and chimney. The twin wick control has a white ceramic insert to the grip and this is detailed 'New Duplex No 1' and the brass collar to the font is impressed 'Hinks & Sons patent' for the bayonet fitting. This lamp is complete and original, has been polished and lacquered and is in good and working order. The lacquer can be removed upon request, at no extra cost. The glass chimney is included but the shade is not included in the price and is no longer available. A very special oil lamp.

Original, quality, bone china, moustache cup and saucer issued to commemorate Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee in 1887. Both the cup and saucer are square shaped with canted corners and have a brightly coloured coat of arms, a crown on a horn and 'Jubilee 1887'. Both the undersides are also marked with the registration number for the same year. Some crazing to the glaze, otherwise complete and in good order.

Original, quality, late 19th century, cast iron fire kerb with a sheet steel front with copper and cast pink brass fittings. The end mythical creature mounts each have a ring in their mouths and all has an Art Nouveau theme. The original matching fire iron tidy is included, the steel has been burnished, the brass and copper polished and all has been lacquered, although the lacquer may be removed at no extra cost. Complete an in good and working order. A most unusual fender, the first we have seen.

Exterior 51" x 14" front to back plus 9.5" tallest.

Original, quality late 19th century coppersmith made money box in a capstan shape. This superb example in copper with brass mounts has the slot to the top, a plaque for engraving to the front and a hinged cover to the underside with the original tiny brass padlock and key. All has been polished and lacquered, although the lacquer may be removed at no extra cost, fully overhauled and to do complete and in good and working order. A most unusual example.

Original, quality pre-war manufacturer's cast iron exhibition sample of a perfect "1/8" scale of a 5ft 6" cast iron roll top bath with a plug hole, an avocado green enamelled interior and four decorative cast iron feet. The underside is impressed with the above details and "1095" and "Cannon" for the manufacturer. The exterior has been cleaned and lacquered and all is complete and in good order with just some minor staining to the interior floor but no chips or damage. A most unusual example, the first we have seen.

Original, quality late 18th early or 19th century large brass doctors door knocker, with a replacement threaded rod, nut and washer and replacement thick brass backplate and knocking stud made to suit. This example is re-enforced through the core with a wrought iron rod and is most unusual door knocker earlier than most we see. These are referred to as Doctors Knockers for they were typically found on Country Manor houses of the type frequently owned by professional gentlemen such as Lawyers and Doctors.

Backplate and knocking stud both 3.5" diam.

Original, quality, circular wall plate issued to commemorate the 100 year centenary of The Primitive Methodists. This superb plate is finely decorated with cameos and detail in flow blue on a white background, with gilt border and edges and dark blue and red over colours. The cameos show "The First Camp Meeting at Mow Cop in 1807", "Jubilee Chapel Tinstall", "Clowes Memorial Chapel Burslem", "Memorial Chapel Mow Cop", "Hugh Bourne, Born April 3rd 1772 and Died October 11th 1852", "Williams Clowes Born March 12th 1780 and Died March 2nd 1851". The reverse is also well detailed with information also with the registration number for the year 1906 and "Manufactured By Wood and Sons Burslem". In mint condition and the first we have seen in colour.
