This example, as used in butchers' shops for chopping up sides of meat and joints, is in good and usable condition with a reversible block, both sides of which have been used. The block is made with end on blocks of beech within a bolted up frame of beech and the base is in pitch pine. Not too big an example, complete and in good and working order.

Original, quality, 18th or early 19th century, steel carving knife with a sharp and wide blade, a heavy antler handle mounted with silver or silver plated collar and end plate. The blade is impressed "W.R. Hotham, Bath" for the maker or retailer. This knife is steel, not stainless steel, and will keep a very sharp edge, but it does not like water or moisture; just wipe and dry thoroughly. A most unusual knife, very sharp, complete and in good and working order.

Original, quality late 19th century nickel mounted copper "Tandem" coach or hunt horn, with a brass mouth piece and the original 'willow' basket carry case. The horn is in superb condition with no dents, engraved for the maker "Swaine and Co London" and polished and lacquered, although the lacquer may be removed at no extra cost. The basket with hinged lid is near complete but with some caning loose and some missing, otherwise complete and in good and working order and with a good tone to the horn.

Original, quality late 19th century large brass dinner gong, suspended within a honey coloured oak frame. This example is most unusual to have a circular frame on a central column with a three legged pedestal beneath. The hammer is an old one of similar age, the gong has been waxed on the original patinated green finish and has a super tone and resonance. All is complete and in good and working order.

Original, quality pre-war leather cased 50ft steel tape measure with a fitted cast brass sinking weight. The leather case is embossed to one side for the manufacturer "John Rabone & Sons Birmingham England" and the folding winding handle on the same side is impressed "50ft". The steel tape is calibrated in inches and all has seen very little use if any and in mint condition. Fully overhauled, complete and in good order.

The original brass ceiling rose is included as is a length of new brass replacement chain. Original, quality 1920's long narrow enamel strips advertising "Pears' Soap" in white upper cased text on black and red. Each sign has four screw holes for mounting and are bright and glossy but with chips to the enamel at the edges and corners. These were originally fitted to the risers on the curved stairs on the end of the horse drawn on motorised omnibuses. Aesops Fable Cheese Dish and Cover See our "Dairy Equipment" section for current stock of similar items.
Original, quality, late 19th century, decorated cheese dish and cover. This is one of the most exciting cheese dishes we have seen. This wonderful example has coloured pictorial panels to the top and three sides and decoration to all the edges of both the base and cover and both pieces are stamped with the registration number for the year 1891. First, the very detailed panels. The top depicts a scene from the Aesop's fable The Fox and The Crow', with the fable printed within ribbon swags. One side panel depicts "Too Much Cheese" with three rats at the cheese baited in a gin trap. The other side panel has a rat on the billiard table with a picture on the wall of 'Welsh Rabbits' and the reverse is entitled "Wise Man of Gotham" with a scene from 'The Merry Tales of The Mad Men of Gotham'. The scene shows three cheeses rolling down the hill. Although bright and clean in colour to the outside and decorated areas, this item does show discolouration to the inside consistent with use, as cheese does leave fat stains over a period of time. There are no chips or damage and all is complete and in super condition and ready to use.

Original, quality 1920's brass oil side lamp with a moulded two tone blue glass font and a brass burner and gallery. This super example has a circular stem with diagonal embossed decoration, mounted on a reeded brass mount and a black glazed terracotta plinth. The brass burner has two x 1" wicks, and the control buttons are impressed "Duplex made in England". The burner will take a standard glass chimney and a standard oil shade with a 4" diam lower aperture. All has been fully overhauled, the brass has been polished and lacquered, although the lacquer may be removed at no extra cost, all is complete and in good and working order. The glass chimney is included but the shade is not, but it may well be available ref code OS132.

Original, quality late 19th century three door wardrobe in walnut. This clean example will break down into two main body parts, the plinth, the cornice plus the three doors, the largest section is the size of two doors wide although the doors will lift off the body section if necessary. The right hand section was originally fitted out with trays and drawers, but these were removed long ago, and the complete wardrobe is now set up for hanging on two rails plus the bonnet box to the bottom of the right hand section. The two outer panelled doors have raised and carved panels with deep cut floral detail and the centre door has the original bevelled mirror. The brass fittings and locks are the original and can be polished if required and the locks have been fully overhauled with a key for each. Some minor scuffs and knocks consistent with use but all still in the original finish and in good and working order.

Original, late 19th century, superb quality, leather case, fully lined and fitted, with a pair of flat sided cut glass beakers and a pair of folding spoons, forks and knives. Each set of cutlery slotted into the leather holder will slip easily into the drinking glass. The buff coloured leather carry case has an adjustable strap to the top and is impressed for the original owner "M. C" and "F. C". The handles on the cutlery are in white bleached and polished bone, the knife blade and corkscrew are steel and the top collars, spoon and fork are in nickel. No maker's name to the leather case or the cutlery, but nevertheless a super set, in super condition, appears unused.

Original, quality late 19th century beautiful mahogany framed, shop counter top, fully glazed display cabinet to display and advertise "Lever's pure double distilled Glycerine". The plinth has inset white vitrolite (glass) panels, each acid etched. The longer panels "Lever Brothers Ltd, Port Sunlight & London" and the shorter ones "twenty eight gold medals & awards". The front glass is etched "By appointment to H.M. The Queen" and with the Royal Coat of Arms and the top pediment "Lever's pure double distilled Glycerine". The underside of the floor is stencilled "This case is the property of Lever Brothers Limited and is lent for the purpose of exhibiting their goods". The glass panel to the rear is a hinged door with a brass lever handle and opens downward. All is original and in super and very clean condition, but it will set you back a tidy sum.

Original, quality, pre-war, Doulton two tone brown glazed water jug, with a side strap handle, a pouring lip and transfer printing to both sides "Whitbread's Ale and Stout". The underside is impressed "Royal Doulton England" and "2533". A firing blemish to the pouring lip, but otherwise all is complete and in good order. A good advertising water jug for the bar.

Original, quality late 19th century white ceramic lined oak "Lemonade Jug" with nickel bands, lid, handles and mounts. This superb example, the best we have seen has a hinged top lid with a finial, a handle to the front and back, a shaped pouring spout and a shield shaped plaque for engraving. All is in superb order with the original finish to the honey coloured oak and only minor rubbing to the nickel mounts and no chips stains or cracks to the ceramic liner.

Original, quality matching run of four cast brass bell shaped "Working Standard" weights circa 1880 / 1900. These weights are calibrated 7lb, 4lb, 2lb, and 1lb. Each one is marked accordingly to the top and with "Borough of Croydon Working Standard" to the bottom edge and '3' to the front of each. A super part set of County Standard weights as used by the weights and Measures Department to check scales and weights used by retailers to sell goods to the public.
