This clean and bright example has a few minor chips to the edges and some of the black detail has been removed for a change of times etc, otherwise complete and in good order. Cast Iron Wall Mounted Letter Box LB52
Original, quality, wall mounted cast iron posting box issued by the Post Office 1912 to 1936 and embossed with the Kings Crown between "GR" for the reign of King George V. The frame beneath the door is embossed for the maker "W.T. Allen and Co London". This larger aperture was a standard alteration carried out by instruction of the Post Office. This box has been cleaned, repainted 'pillar box red' and has the original brass Chubb lock and steel Chubb key. All has been fully overhauled and is complete and in good and working order, but it does not include a "Times of Collection" enamel plate and would take the size 7" x 3.25". A super example, looking its best again. Exterior 28" x 10.75" + 13" front to back main body, aperture 8" x 1".

VR Wall Mounted Letter Box LB50
Original, quality, cast iron, wall mounted letter box issued by the post office 1857 to 1901. The hinged door to the front has the original lock and key, but no collection plate. The crown and "VR", for the reign of Queen Victoria, are embossed to the top of the front and the lower edge has "T. Allen and Co, London" for the manufacturer. The interior has the original hinged wire cage to prevent the letters falling out when the door is opened and all has a cleaned and repainted in red (not quite a pillar box red). The aperture is larger than normal for boxes of this age for this aperture has been altered at a later date to cope with the increase in size of general mail. The conversion was a standard post office alteration. Another interesting feature of this box is the key with two pins to the handle, this is used to operate the dust or bee cover to the keyhole, preventing dust or bees entering. All has been fully overhauled and is complete and in good and working order. Front 28" x 10.5", main body to be recessed 27.5" x 9.5" + 11.5" front to back to be recessed, aperture 7.75" x 1.25".

Original, quality, late 19th century, pressed brass wall mounted letter rack on the original shaped, honey coloured oak backboard, with a brass ring for hanging. This larger than average letter rack has a shell form flanked by a pair of opposing mythical fish. The brass has been polished and lacquered and all is complete and in good order. Backboard 7.75" x 5.5", total 2" front to back.

Original, quality pre-war pressed tin letter balance with the original green painted base, with a paper label to the underside detailing the retailer "Parkhouse and Co Milson St. Bath". This scale was probably of German manufacture for the UK market and will weight up to 4oz, calibrated in parts of an ounce. Cleaned and lacquered, in super condition and complete and in good working order. 6" tall and base 2.75" x 3.75".

Nickel Parcel Balance PS40
Original, quality, large postal balance in nickel, with the original shaped honey coloured oak base on bun feet and with the full set of ten original nickel plated circular weights. This superb, all original set of scales has two ivorine plaques to the oak base detailing the postal rates for parcels, letters and foreign letters for the years 1906 - 1915. The scales are impressed "Warranted Accurate" and with the manufacturer's mark "STS". The top surface of the trays are pitted and showing the brass on the larger tray, the weights are also bleeding through to the brass in some areas, otherwise all is bright and clean and in super condition. The original set of weights comprise two 4lb and one of each of 2lb, 1lb, 8oz, 4oz, 2oz and two 1/2oz. All is complete and in good and working order. Plinth 14.75" x 11" + 2", total 16" wide, 12" front to back + 8" tall. Price is for the set.

Original, quality, late 19th century, brass postal balance on the original mahogany base,with the original brass weights. This example is stamped "S.Mordan and Co, London" for the maker and the full set of circular brass weights are stamped according 2 x "16oz", "8oz", "4oz", "2oz", "1oz" and 1/2oz". The brass has been polished and lacquered, although the lacquer may be removed at no extra cost. All is complete and in good and working order. Plinth 13" x 6.75" + 1.5", total 14" x 7.75" + 6.75" tall. Price is for the set.

Pair of original, quality, pre-war, nickel plated tubular spring balances, in the original blue velvet and white silk lined leather look paper covered box, with a hinged lid and a pair of clasps. Both these balances are stamped for the maker "Salter" and the one with the spring clip, presumably for letters, is calibrated in ounces up to 16oz and the other, with a hook for parcels? is calibrated in pounds up to 15lbs. All is in near mint condition, probably not seen action and both balances are complete and in good and working order. Case 9" x 3.75" x 1". Price is for the set.

Original, quality, late 19th century, cast iron parcel scale to weigh up to 7lbs calibrated in ounces. The cast iron body is decorated in relief, to the front and base with designs of acanthus leaves. The circular painted face is marked "Salters Postal Parcel Balance No 35, 7lbs by 1oz" and has the postage rates for the years 1883 to 1886. The top rectangular flat pan is in brass and all has been cleaned and lacquered. The detail to the face is rather faded in places, otherwise all is complete and in good and working order. Top pan 6" x 4", total 8.5" tall, base 6" wide and 4.75" front to back.

Post Office Brass Plaque NP185
Original, quality 1920's / 30's, large cast brass plaque detailing "Postal Orders, Pensions and Allowances" to one side and "P.O. PSNS. & ALLCES" to the other in inlaid white enamel upper cased text. This plaque is in the old unpolished 'bronze' colour, but can be polished back to the pink brass on request at no extra cost. This sign would have been slotted in above a teller on a post office counter and the abbreviated version to the reverse was for the tellers information. A super clean sign of great quality, complete and in good order. 22" x 4".

Original, quality cast iron letter balance, with a brass dial and top letter tray. The dial is calibrated to 24 ounces in ¼ ounce divisions for the years 1923 to 1940 and is impressed for the manufacturer " Salters " and " Letter balance No 11 " and " Made in England ". The body has retained a green stippled paint finish and the brass has been polished and lacquered, although the lacquer may be removed at no extra cost. All has been fully overhauled and is complete and in good and working order. Top pan 3.25", total 7.5" tall, base 4" wide and 3.5" front to back.

Original, quality 1920's, enamel sign, detailing in black upper cased text on white background "Post Office and "Money Order Office, Savings Bank" all within a black border. A good bright sign, with eight screw holes to the outer border, but with chip damage to the enamel edges, mainly to the top and corners. 26" x 10".

Original, quality pre war, cast brass frame from the front of a postage stamp dispensing machine originally fitted to the outside of a post office or to a pillar posting box. This good example has 'Postage' 'Stamps' embossed to the top and bottom, has the four mounting bolts and nuts and the original plate glass all weather hood. Polished and lacquered, although the lacquer may be removed at no extra cost and in good order, although incomplete. Exterior 16" x 6" and 3" front to back at hood and bolts 1" long.
