Cammell Laird and Co Ltd Promotional Paper Weight A93
Original, quality 1920's advertising desk or counter paper weight in the form of a standing camel on a rectangular shaped block. This example appears to be in pewter or spelter, later painted in brown paint. Each side of the plinth is mounted with a brass plaque detailing in relief to, one side "Cammell Laird & Co Ltd, Sheffield, Grimesthorpe & Penistone" and the other side "Cammell Laird & Co Ltd, Shipyard Birkenhead". All has been washed and lacquered and is complete and in good order with just some rubbing to the later brown paint. Cammell Laird were huge ship builders having many famous ships to their credit including HMS Ark Royal, The Mauritania, The Robert F.Stockton, HMS Birkhead, CSS Alabama and The Fullages to name but a few. 4" tall and base 3.75" x 1.75".

Original, quality mid 19th century cast brass letter clip in the very detailed form of a chicken or cockerel's head with a sprung opening beak as the clip, a red felt 'Comb' to the top and the original gilt finish. This most unusual example has a hanging loop to the backplate and is impressed "Published March 6th, 1850 Messenger to the reverse. The shaped backplate has an embossed Irish harp and a hanging ring to the top and the front piece has a deep relief design of roses and thistles surmounted with the 'Prince of Wales Feather Plume'. These designs represent the British Isles, England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. All has been polished and lacquered, although the lacquer may be removed at no extra cost. Original, quality, 19th century, cast brass letter clip with the most detailed designs of a 'Royal coat of arms' to the clip, with "Regd Oct 3rd 1843, No.24" and "Merry Phipson and Parker Letter Clip". The backplate has a hanging ring to the top, a checkered plate for the grip to the lower half and acanthus leaf decorations between. Original, quality 1920's brass and copper letter opener, with a very detailed brass and copper handle all in the oriental style. The scimitar shaped blade is engraved with a scene of a monkey in tree foliage to one side and insects and foliage to the other and the grip is embossed with highly detailed scenes of monkeys harvesting coconuts from the trees, with the coconuts in copper and the monkeys mainly in brass. Superb detail all round, some old repairs to the side seams and polished and lacquered, although the lacquer may be removed at no extra cost. Complete and in good order. 11.5" x 1" x 0.25"

The scimitar shaped blade is engraved with various sea fish and creatures and the copper grip is embossed with the most highly detailed assortment of sea creatures in deep relief. The main base could be a ' Coelacanth ', with a lobster and other fish to one side and an octopus and other fish to the other side, I cannot emphasize the detail enough. This superb pair has very detailed embossed designs of fuchsia flower and leaves to each tier and are mounted on rectangular bases with acanthus leaf borders. Some old repairs, some stamens missing from the lower flowers on rack and both the bases have been refilled with plaster of Paris as original. All is complete and in good order otherwise but no signs of a maker's details. Base 3.5" x 2.5" and total 7" tall.

These inks have hinged brass lids and push fit onto the base which holds them tight but permits them to be turned when positioning for use. Original, quality late 19th century walnut veneered inkstand with a pair of original clear moulded glass inkwells with cut glass lids and brass hinged mounts. The stand has black outer edges and pen grooves, a pullout drawer to the front, a hooped brass carry handle to the top and an engraved brass presentation plaque detailing "Presented to D Williams by the Dalton-in-Furness Choral Society, For His Valuable Services as Conductor February 13th 1884. Some ink staining to the top and some wear to the corners, otherwise all is complete and in good and working order, standing on four bun feet with the brass polished and lacquered, although the lacquer may be removed at no extra cost. Inkwells 2" square and 3.25" tall. Total 11.75" wide, 7.25" front to back and 6.25" tall including inks.

The stand is of a clover leaf shape, with embossed decoration of leaves, stems and mythical beast heads and an acanthus leaf trim to the outer rim, all standing on three ball feet. The inkwell has a brass collar and hinge to the cut glass lid and apart from a few minor chips to the inside of the cap, all is complete and in good and working order. The underside has a maker's mark of "AFC" and all has been polished and lacquered, although the lacquer may be removed at no extra cost. A most unusual example. 8.5" widest x 4.75" tall including inkwell.

Original, quality, moulded clear glass 'snail' shaped inkwell, mounted on a cast iron stand in the original bronze coloured finish. The sleigh shaped stand is decorated in relief, with acanthus leaves, has a pen rest to the top at the back and is impressed "Patented 1879". When the inkwell is tilted up, the neck is a flush fit to the back circular plate and when down enough ink is tilted forward for dipping the pen into. An ingenious invention which works very well and is a super find to have both pieces, still intact, barely used and still together. 3.5" tall x 2.5" wide and 5.5" front to back.
