Original, quality late 19th century unusual tailors' smoothing iron with a cast iron body and a flat bar shaped strap handle. The upper surface of the body is embossed for the manufacturer "M. Mahony. Troy N.Y" ( New York ) and "pat'd" ( for Patented ) "Nov 23rd 1876". The underside has a fine mesh grille effect in relief, all has been cleaned and lacquered and is complete and in good order. The first we have seen.
