Original, quality late 19th century cast iron safe plate originally from the door of a fireproof safe. This superby detailed plate, the first we have seen, is in a vertical rectangular shape with an arched top and a figure of a craftsman with his tools and "Trade Mark" within. The following information is embossed for the safe maker "James Felton Elwell Birmingham", Improved Patent Steel Intersected Fire & Buglar Proof Safe manufacturer at the Vulcan Works, Established 1855. All has been cleaned and lacquered and is complete and in good order.
