Brass Skirt Lifter SL14
£135.00 GBP
Original, quality, late 19th century, brass skirt lifter. These were worn by housekeepers or the lady of the house on a cord around the waist. to hold up the front of their long skirts when ascending stairs whilst carrying a tray or similar. The hanging sprung clip would hold up the skirt six inches or so to prevent the leading foot rising the stairs from treading on the skirt; thus preventing a trip. A very sensible and useful gadget. Polished and lacquered, although the lacquer may be removed at no extra cost. Complete and in good and working order.
