This super pair are stamped 'half pint' and 'gill' for the capacity and both are stamped in the lead seal for the custom and excise. Original, quality 1920's / 30's half gallon copper ale measure with a hollow loop handle to the rear and a pouring lip and rim to the top. The circular base has a thick rolled over rim, and the top rim has a customs and excise lead seal detailing 'GR' with a crown over '6' and '47', '47' being 1947 the last time it was re-checked and stamped. The front is impressed "½ gallon". A very clean example with no dents, polished and lacquered, although the lacquer may be removed at no extra cost. Complete and in good and working order. 10" tall, 7.25" base diam and 9.5" front to back including handle.

Each is marked to the bass collar accordingly "Half Pint" "Pint and Quart" and to the pewter under the rim. "VR" oven "349" and beneath a crown for the reign of Queen Victoria. The half pint has an old but good repair around the base and now all is complete and in good order, with the pewter waxed and the brass polished and lacquered although the lacquered may be remover at no extra cos. Pair of original, quality 1930's, cylindrical shaped brass measures one pint and half pint size. Each are stamped "2", "Croydon County Council" and "GR" beneath a crown for the reign of King George VI, 1937 to 1952. These were part of a set of County standard measures used to check the measures used to sell goods to the public. All has been polished and lacquered and are complete and in good order. Original, quality, very large ale measure jug in white ceramic with transfer decoration of hops and barley to both sides, a pouring lip and a side handle. The underside is transfer printed in black with the 'Crown Pottery' logo, "Patent Government Stamped Measure, Sole Patentee and Maker, John Tams Longton", "Hop and Barley" and with the registration number for the year 1905. I can not find the custom and excise etched mark, but all is complete otherwise and has the stepped rim around the handle. This jug does have an 1.5" hairline crack to one side of the lip, but no damage or chips otherwise. This eight pint jug is a most unusual example, the largest we have seen. 9" tall, base 8.25" diameter, 10.5" wide including handle and spout.

Pair of original, quality, copper spirit measures, circa 1900 / 1920's. These most unusual examples have side loop handles, tapered bodies, pouring lips to the top and the original lead 'weights and measures' impressed seal detailing "E R " over "6" beneath the Kings Crown, for the reign of King Edward VII 1902 to 1911. The larger size has an oval brass plaque to the front detailing 1/2 pint and the smaller one is stamped "Gill". Polished and lacquered, although the lacquer may be removed at no extra cost. Complete and in good order. Larger 5" tall, base 3.75" diameter, 5" wide including handle, smaller 4.5" tall, base 3" diameter + 4" wide including handle.

Oak Pulse Measure M110
Original, quality, late 19th century, 'Cooper' made oak pulse measure for measuring dried peas, beans etc. This measure is the first we have seen, with the two measures incorporated in one tub. The oak floor is set at the correct depth for the quart measure stood one way up and the 1/2 gallon when turned over. The oak slats are retained within two blacksmith wrought iron bands and both sides of the floor and one side wall to the outside are impressed "VR No 262" for the Custom and Excise proof. Two brass plaques are also fitted to the outside wall denoting "Quart" and "1/2 gallon". A very unusual example, complete and in good and working order.7.5" tall x 7.25" one end diameter and 8" the other.

This all beech measure is impressed to both the outside and the inside "ER" with a crown for the reign of King Edward, also impressed '523' and 'LCC' for London County Council and with a side handle as on a mug. Both of these beech measures are impressed with "VR" beneath a crown, over a shield shaped mark that is to the inside and outside surface and each also has a side handle, as on a mug. Very unusual to find these complete and in such super condition. 'Pint' 5.5" tall x 3.5" diameter and 5" wide including handle, 'half pint' 4.5" tall x 3" diameter and 4" wide including handle. Original, quality, superb folding 24" brass ruler, circa 1900 / 1920's, calibrated in 16th of an inch and stamped for the maker "J.Rabone and Sons Birmingham". Most exciting is the key pattern decorated hinge pin, decorated plates and the slotted circular buttons to grip the rule section when folded up. Polished and lacquered, although the lacquer may be removed at no extra cost and is complete and in good and working order. 12.5" x 1.5".
